Strategic Plan -- Our Methods


Goal #1: Increase success rates of those students who utilize the Virtual Campus.


Strategic objectives:

1.1     Provide dedicated support for online and hybrid students in formats that are easy for them to access (e.g. expand Parature use, eAdvising).

1.2     Address issues of student discomfort with technology, lack of technical skills, readiness for online learning (implement SmarterMeasure, offer “How to Learn Online” course).

1.3     Implement Quality Matters in more online classes; implement Quality Matters in hybrid classes.

1.4     Increase student evaluation return rates for online classes.

1.5     Provide broader support for online faculty through new eLearning faculty mentors.

1.6     Expand virtual access to commencement, student government, and co-curricular activities to provide a true campus experience for eLearners.

1.7     Continue implementation of innovative adaptive learning in online classes.

Goal #2: Increase online and hybrid student persistence rates.


Strategic objectives:

2.1     Investigate why retention/persistence rates of online-only students are low and pilot strategies to improve those rates.

2.2     Analyze why taking one or more online or hybrid classes, but not fully online classes, improves student persistence rates.

2.3     Include your ideas/feedback here.



Goal #3: Attract and serve more online and hybrid students through curriculum development, targeted marketing, and enrollment management.


Strategic objectives:

 3.1    Expand enrollments in existing online programs through targeted marketing and strategic enrollment management: Criminal Justice/CAST; HIIM; Purchasing; Accounting; ECE.

3.2     Convert targeted face-to-face curricula into an online format: Math 111 to complete an AA degree in Psychology. NRG 101 and 110 to launch a Clean Technology Entrepreneurship certificate in an online, low-residency format.

3.3     Convert existing curriculum into hybrid/low-residency formats. Explore: Associates degree as evening / hybrid; Manufacturing; Automotive General Service Technician; Music Tech Applied Bachelors.

3.4     Develop and market pathways to online and hybrid/blended bachelors programs.

3.5     Develop and market new curricula in online and hybrid delivery modes: MOOCs in Wellness/Nutrition and Philosophy through Film. Science of Cannibas. Social Media for Business Certificates. Explore: Paralegal, Human Resource Management, Human Services, Graphic Design/VCT, Healthcare Administration, adopting Applied Bachelors offered online at sister CTCs that don’t conflict with current SCC offerings.

3.6     Explore marketing to international online learners: launch MOOCs in Wellness/Nutrition and Philosophy through Film; collaborate with IE recruiters.

3.7     Explore competency-based education.

3.8     Include your ideas/feedback here.



Goal #4: Promote innovative uses of technology to enhance global engagement and competence among students, faculty, and staff.


Strategic objectives:

4.1     Explore the collaborative online international learning (COIL) model with international colleges to extend the learning environment beyond national boundaries.
