Committee Name:  Shoreline College Council

THE FOLLOWING DISCUSSIONS ARE PRELIMINARY CONVERSATIONS. INPUT WILL BE SOLICITED BEFORE FINAL DECISIONS ARE REACHED. References to College Council from Governance Steering Committee minutes of April 22, 2003

Purpose:  

The Council, composed of equal numbers of students, classified staff, faculty and administrators, will play an important role in the governance structure of this College. One major intent of the Council is to provide opportunities for all segments of the campus to have input into the decision making process and to improve communication in all directions.

Meeting Frequency: 

The current schedule calls for the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays from 2:00 pm - 4:30 pm in the Board Room.

 

Communication of Agenda and Minutes: 

Agendas will be posted to the Council website at least 2 days prior to the meeting. Minutes will be posted within 3 days after each meeting.

 

Length of Time Committee Will Exist:

Ongoing

 

Role of the President:

The College President does not serve as a voting member of the council. He/She will be an ex-officio member.

 

Membership: 

The SCC is of formed from representatives of all constituency groups:

  • Five Administrators (min. 1 professional exempt)
  • Five Classified Staff (1-supervisors group, 1-plant ops, 3-classified bargaining unit)
  • Five Students
  • Five Faculty

Two different constituency reps will co-chair.

  • Fall Quarter – Administrative and Faculty
  • Winter Quarter – Faculty and Classified
  • Spring Quarter – Classified and Student

Length of Terms: 

Members will serve two-year terms but not more than four years consecutively. Members’ terms will be staggered. Selection of representatives will be done by constituency groups [with input from College President as was the procedure for other Governance Committees].
